I need to finish up my kids’ rodeo pictures…
So tonight, here are both of the highlights…
You lucky readers, you!
First, the shirt-tail button race.
(First, please notice the frozen ears on this horse… or the lack of ears on this horse because he was born on a cold and windy morning… whatever…)
The boy charges down from one end of the arena to the other, where his partner, a girl, must sew a button onto his shirt…
He then must remount and ride back to where he began… and the button must still be there!
Lessons had to be given to all the girls to show them how to sew on a button.
Fine motor skills are difficult when you are excited.
I’m just saying…
Parents would have been mortified to hear the brother / sister teams go at each other!
Since I was NOT a parent of these children…
I was dying laughing by the time this was over…
Tears were coming out of my eyes…
I couldn’t believe it…
“Hurry, hurry!”
(Horse and rider get close…)
“Ahhhh! Slow down!!!”
“You suck at sewing!”
“Shut-up!”
“Get back on!”
“Ride in a straight line you (*#@$!! “
Frankly it was hysterical.
You had to be there.
Best time wins.
My only improvement to this…
I told them the girls oughtta be ridin’ and the boys sewin’… but no one listened to me.
The Potato Race is our finale…
Much like the Wild Horse Race in regular rodeo…
The point…
Five riders race to a feed pan with potatoes in it.
They carry long wooden garden stakes.
Their stakes are color coded to the potatoes.
First one from each heat returns to the finals…
On your mark…
Get set…
Go!
This race can be dirty if you have aggressive competitive riders…
Ten Sleep kids are more polite.
Well… kinda…
My “polo” shot…
Aha!
Success!
There’s that frozen eared horse again…
But I’m not done.
Because during the potato race, I saw a story unfold that I have to share with you…
about competiveness…
about spirit…
about trying to succeed…
Check back in tomorrow for P.’s story!
