I’m glad only family saw me today…
I rarely get really really mad…
but today was one of those days.
I had been looking forward to this new little celebration Ten Sleep was going to put on today…
The Trailing of the Sheep Festival.
Every stockman around…
whether cattleman or sheepman…
is trailing their stock off of the Big Horn Mountains.
We’ll do ours soon!
Snow has fallen…
It’s time to bring them home!
There was going to be sheep trailed through town (nothing new)…
a parade… (BEFORE the sheep for *obvious* reasons!)
fiber arts display, etc….
Basque dancers…
storytelling…
singers…
the football game… (well… not *exactly* part of the Festival!)
sheep dog demonstrations…
and a street dance.
I’ve been looking forward to this for weeks!
Weeks!
I kid you not!
I was going to take photos ALL DAY…
My blog was going to be SET for weeks!
So I jump up this morning…
take a shower…
and then Vernon comes in to tell me the calves in our corral broke out and escaped the night we left for Idaho.
Now, he doesn’t say anything…
but his assumption and mine…
is that my darling dogs chased them…
They broke down the corner of the corral and now have a 2 day head start on us.
$%#*&^(#$!!
You know that English Shepherd myth that they know where stock belong and will guard openings and/or put stock back where they belong?
Yeah…
My three evidently didn’t inherit *that* gene.
I’m pretty dang sure Elsa and Dally are the guilty parties…
My day is now shot.
I help rebuild corral and start looking for 154 calves.
I could relay all that happened today…
but…
I’d rather focus on something good.
Today was NOT so good.
Oh, yes…
I missed EVERYTHING today…
returning after dark…
still 7 head short if we counted right…
<sigh>
Back to the *good*.
Tuesday night…
Vernon and I drove up for a closer look at this…
It was a controlled burn by a neighbor…
But it looked impressive there for a while…
we wanted to make sure it was staying where it belonged.
We needn’t have worried…
Wednesday…
this happened…
Yes, those are humongous snowflakes…
Goodbye pink petunias…
It was nice knowing ya!
By Thursday morning…
the half inch of moisture had everything soggy though most of the snow still lay up high…
right where that burn was last night!
Vernon decides to go pick up his used snowmachine he bought…
Sounds good…
but it is in Idaho Falls, Idaho…
ROAD TRIP!!!
Over the next few days I’ll share the Road Trip photos…
But tonight…
I’m sore…
and tired…
and dusty…
and cold…
and still a little cranky…
because my best laid plans were destroyed *most likely* by the dogs I love like no other…
Ah, well…
tomorrow is another day…
Find me here!
