Firewood
A neighbor called last night...

wondered if we could use some firewood.
The logger had left him a good sized pile and if we wanted some we could go get it.
We took him up on the offer and zipped up the mountain to haul it home.
What a deal!
This will be easy to cut and split!
We use the neighbor's tractor to load it... you can tell it's not ours because it's not blue!

You can see the pine beetle creates a blue tinge as it infects and kills the tree... it is very pretty to use in furniture...

Unloading it at home... see the *blue* tractor?
Now we just have to cut it/split it/stack it !

That is what I been up to every weekend. Since I am the only one up there I commit myself to chop for at least an hour. It is hard work and then to still have to stack it. I think I need a nap just thinking about it.

That was a real score! My hubby and I are behind on getting our wood cut for this winter. We have been way too busy adding to the herd this summer.

Very cool! I knew before I saw the pictures that you were getting lodgepole pine. The blue stain is caused by a fungus that the bark beetle carries with it. The fungus clogs up the xylem (water carrying vessels) and helps kill the tree.
I like burning lodgepole here too. It's easy to split, or sometimes small enough that you can burn whole rounds. Hurray for bark beetles that provide us with all this great firewood to stay warm.
