Sunshine and Twilight
Yesterday and today were Cowboy Days.

I like these days.
It's quiet.
It's relatively easy since the cows know where to go.
It's fairly easy on the dogs since cows don't hardly fight without their calves by their side.
I can move a big bunch by myself - which I enjoy immensely - so long as one other person is up front to open the gates!
I can run through the seven bajillion Girl Scout songs I know...
or "The Cremation of Sam McGee"...
or "Big Wicked Bill"...
without an audience except for the dogs.
They only look sideways at me when I belt out:
"IF YOU'VE NEVER OWNED A BIG MALAMUTE,
PERHAPS YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND,
THAT OLD LONGING I GET, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT,
JUST TO FEEL HIS BIG HEAD IN MY HANDS!"
The newest Panasonic camera arrived... so I have PHOTOS too!
Here's a few... just to prove I *have* been working...

Yesterday's morning sunshine... and not a cloud in the sky.

Dally in pursuit along the edge of Otter Creek Canyon.

Atta Girl!

This morning's sunshine...

A dusty trail in the evening twilight...
Clean-up tomorrow...
then it's back to the usual!
<If I have a *usual*>
Remember to leave questions in the comment section... Sunday will be the day they get answered!

Tell Panasonic that thanks to your durability testing I just bought a new Canon G11.

Jerry, I sure don't blame you! Let me know how it works out... I may still be looking in 3 more months. Can't complain about their customer service, though, they keep shipping me new ones!

Yea for just moving momma cows. Life without to much action. I work on rhymes in times like that. Have you ever read this article. I enjoyed it. A rose is a rose, but is a cowdog a cow/calf dog?

Hey, I know The Cremation of Sam McGee! "I looked at it, and I thought a bit, and I looked at my frozen chum..." I love Robert Service. When I was young, I crewed on a 60 foot schooner that was owned by a particularly (but lovingly) eccentric guy. He played reveille (sp?) on his bugle to invite other boaters aboard for cocktails, always wore red suspenders and a marlinspike, collected all things Jack London, and his schooner was a shrine to the magic of pristine old wooden boats. On a cold gray wet Easter at Santa Cruz Island, four of us handed around thick mugs of coffee, stoked the woodstove in the main cabin, and took turns reading London and Robert Service. It is one of my favorite memories. Thanks for the reminder!

Ketra, AWESOME story! I love the age of sail... being a Horatio Hornblower fan on the side... That sounds like a book... write it down!

My question is about your dogs. Do you only breed them for "working homes"? I live in Las Vegas so my yard is much too small for the amount of exercise their breed requires, but I was still curious nonetheless!

I just saw on your twitter that Lucas was kicked in the mouth. I hope he is doing OK.

How do your cows not run off when they are out in the field/land? Or do they just kinda stay put wherever you leave them?

Otter Creek Canyon sure is gorgeous!
Keep those songs going - your doggies need a little music once in awhile! Maybe YOU'D like to learn, "Black Socks"
(Black socks.....the more that you wear them the dirtier they get!) It's a fun one by local folksinger, Nan Hoffman.
