About Winter...

Pop the cork on the champagne, I'm done with the tile in the bathroom!

Well...

I grouted today... there's caulking to do...  and the rest of the bathroom...

But I am willing to celebrate NOW!!!

Grouting was interesting...

but I was happy with the way it turned out.

It's the one detail where I went with "popular design" in my bathroom.

I went with brown grout.

Not off-white, white, or grey.

Brown.

As I recall, my brother the carpenter was proud of me for "going outside of my box".  He's the one that helped me pick out the tile and supplies.  Can't wait for him to see it... though he'll notice my mistakes for sure!

I have to admit.

It looks pretty good!

In other news, this happened.

Oh, I don't mind winter that much... snow's fun...

I just want to finish a few more projects before it gets SERIOUS about winter!

What mistakes? You did a great job, and only you will see them!

Pretty funny that you started the whole project exactly two years ago. Aren't blogs great for that?

The brown grout is the perfect touch! I've done enough tiling to know it's quite a job--but one that will make you feel inordinately proud when you finish.

A day to celebrate the finishing of a big project - it looks wonderful! I do like the brown grout a lot, and the accent tiles.

And if its snowing in Wyoming, maybe some of it will get here in WNY soon!! Then I do my happy dance!

We always keep tabs on what the weather is in Wyo. Still have a lot of family there. Went on the DOT site yesterday and looked at the web cams and the snow happening around the area. What's Thanksgiving without a little snow. I remember one where we had 27 inches and wind. School was out for a week. It was great!

If you haven't sealed your grout yet you can get a spray on sealant (yellow can but I can't remember the name) that seals the grout and evaporates off the tile so no mess to clean up. Just remember to follow the directions and ventilate the room good.

Really?  I have to seal my grout now?  I've honestly not heard of doing that...

Yes Mam, you need to seal the grout because it will actually absorb some water. If the bathroom stays reasonably stable temperature wise, you can get by with re-sealing every 18-24 months. If the temperature fluctuates much in winter, the tiles will actually shrink and expand with the temp changes and you need to re-seal every 12 months or so. I think I have a can in the basement I will send out with Mandy on Thanksgiving.
