Before Shot
Thanks to everyone who expressed condolences at the loss of Willow. You are very special to take the time and effort to send me a note! I really appreciate all of you!
One of the great things about living on a ranch... if a horse has given you years of work... he can retire here... and just eat and sleep his way through years of retirement! Willow was REALLY showing his age... his 20? something-ness (I really should look up his papers
)... and so it wasn't all that much of a shock that he simply laid down and died.

Brandon's little Andy horse died earlier this fall and he didn't look as old and wizened as Willow. That was more of a shock!
We are now down to 11 horses.
Most of them are retired.
Vernon's Winchester has just been diagnosed with a bowed tendon.
Needless to say, we're on the hunt for more ranch horses!
It's not like horses are hard to find... but GOOD horses are hard to find!
Just look at the farm and ranch section of Craigslist... horses are a dime a dozen there!
The boys think they're ready for some green broke horses...
Not me.
I want 'em broke and dog gentle!
Anyway, I just wanted to make sure and thank you all.

I spent the day working on our "entertainment center". Of course, we can't do this *normally*... we have to put our brand on it!
Vernon ordered his big flat panel tv.
We needed a stand to put under it to hold the Dish receiver and DVD and all that jazz... so I'm repurposing an old dresser a friend gave me. I'm just doing a quick sand down and a tung oil rub and calling it good.
Here's the before shot...

Hopefully in a day or two, I can get you the "after" shot!

I need to throw a few things out here...
I'm late for the January session of Questions And Answers! Drop your questions in the comment box and I'll answer them Tuesday.
I hate self promotion, but I really do need to sell my last seven calendars! Should you need a special calendar for that hard-to-buy-for person, (or yourself!), try one of these!
Whoever wanted a mug? I have 3 left!
Purchase them through my shop on the left sidebar!
Talk about self promotion... There is a little contest going on called the Bloggies. It's just a simple way to get the word out about great blogs... because the award is a check for a whopping $20.11! But name recognition is everything in the blogosphere! So should any of you feel the urge... please nominate me in either the "Photography" or "Best Kept Secret" categories! It takes a minute and an email address... and I would love you for it!

Ooo, your new project looks very promising! It looks quite similar to an antique sideboard my mother has.
So for my question, we have 6 head of cattle to transport from MO and AR to WA in April (3 yearlings and 3- 2 yr. olds). Any suggestions on who to hire? Or if we do it ourselves, is it possible to rent a stock trailer?

Love that old dresser. The leaf decoration on the lower doors really caught my eye. Can't wait to see the 'after' shots. Those older pieces of furniture just have character.

No questions that I can think of right now, but I'm so sorry about your horse. I've ridden for years and the loss of a horse is always hard. On the brighter side, looking for horses is always fun - good luck!

Sorry to hear about your horse. I don't want a green horse anymore either. Sometimes I wish I could "freeze" a good one for use later on.
Looks like it's going to be a nice piece when you get it finished.

I see a lot of potential in that old dresser! Hope you have fun refinishing it. I like the leaf carving, too. Don't you wonder who made it originally?
