I’m very happy so many of you enjoyed the story of Snake from yesterday.
I’m also glad I wasn’t the only one who could remember the Shake ‘N’ Bake commercial from way back when where the little girl says in a cute southern accent, “and ah heoppt!”
Ali and Vince, it is illegal to have an eagle feather or any other part of an eagle in your possession. Since it is our national bird, like your kiwi, it’s protected. So, no feathers!
Most of the time, golden eagles are the top dog around here, but bald eagles migrate through… and some stay the entire winter. It is definitely more rare to see them here in the summertime. They prefer fish, though roadkill runs a close second!
Rob, yes, “stately” cottonwoods. They are, after all, Wyoming’s state tree! They are by far the tallest deciduous tree in Wyoming that I know of… Just to prove a point, I dug out this photo I used for our Centennial Party invitations… The white house is two stories… all those tall trees are cottonwoods in the midst of their spring leafing. Just ask anyone that has been in my front yard… the trunks of my two cottonwoods would take many people to encircle them! And the trees the eagles are in… cottonwoods.
No news media covered this… my little blog and twitter and facebook was as much publicity as this tiny moment had for its 15 minutes of fame.
So now what you’ve been waiting for…
Snake, the Bald Eagle from Carol Greet on Vimeo.
The “Gotchya!” yell from the Bird Lady, I think, was referring to a photo “capture” as Snake flew away. If you turn up your volume LOUD… at the beginning of the two clips at the end, you might be able to pick out the eagles chattering to each other. Don’t confuse it with the sound of my camera… but it *IS* there if you listen closely!
Enjoy this Snake Video!
