First Branding

Can you spell sorrel?
The red horses win!
Out here we call 'em sorrels... back east, they might be called chestnut.
Either way, they're red!
(YES... for you detail oriented people... one is a paint and one is a bay, but at first glance!)
The day is over.
It was CHILLY, though it was predicted to be 70, the windchill and clouds helped cool things down.
Good for a branding.
Good day to have a branding fire to stand next to!
We made it through with lots of help, barely enough food, and no wrecks.
I'm still hacking and coughing, but I feel better...
And again, I'm glad this branding is over... though a little part of me is looking forward to the next one, since I will be over this cold by then! Knock on wood!

Geez, I thought we had a lot of sorrels!
We have to get through artificial insemination with our registered herd next weekend, then start planning branding. We've still got six cows left to calve. Once of the joys of having the registered calve six weeks before the commercial herd...those registered bull calves are HUGE by the time we brand.

Our last cow calved day before yesterday! We AI over Memorial Day weekend and will have our next bigger branding June 4th or thereabouts. Those calves will be big as well!

Now you can collapse a little and take care of yourself!

I would love to see what a branding is like. I will be in the area( meaning the state of) next year. I can cook too.

We know years ahead when we brand. Spray memorial weekend and brand 4 of july. Shipping is always in question but it is somewhere between my daughters birthday in mid oct. to my b-day in first on nov.

We AI Memorial Weekend and preg test over Labor Day. I'm so glad we leave the 4th free for FUN since the other summer holidays are not holidays at all...
