Puppies and Panama

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

We had to move some cows this morning... which resulted in a late arrival to the rodeo and fewer chances to take pictures.  Don't worry, I WILL share what I did manage to get...

It also allowed me a rare instance... since Panama now lives up here at the Mills place... I decided to ride by the puppy pen and see how they reacted.  It's great exposure for a ranch dog... to see what their mom Dally does or doesn't do... and see how something very BIG and very STRANGE (especially those whinnies) can impact their little world.

Best of all, I got it all on video!

Roll that footage!

There seems to be one dog hanging back early on -- who is that?

    Sweet!

I reviewed it closely.  At 49 seconds, the one hanging back seems to be Stormy, my biggest girl.  As I spin my horse around, she trades places with Jireh, who is now sitting back by the pool, where before she was out checking out Panama.

    That was great, Carol!
Aren't you afraid the puppies will wander off being out of their pen?
I've been following for about two years and I thoroughly enjoy all that you share.

Heavens, no.  The only time that door is shut was the first few days of being outside, when Dally would steal their food, or when the guys were moving a lot of equipment around.  They need to explore and experience things, and when I'm busy and can't spend time that I want with them... it helps to know that they might follow Dally or Elsa around a bit.  They don't go very far, though their little circle gets bigger.  they get stuck in junk piles, dig in the dirt, follow some scents, sleep in the tall grass.  They're living in dog heaven!

that was so cute! Neat to see their differnt levels of curiousity and I bet a few would have touched noses with the horse if you let them. Made me want to lay down in a puppy pile and be licked to death! Your life is so different than mine but we love some of the same things, thanks for shareing.

I have an English Shepherd that we got from an animal shelter in TN. She is fearless and very smart. Your pups seem to be a bit fluffier then Dixie. We also have a Newfoundland(180 lbs) and a pound dog of about 50 lbs. I was very interested in how the pups reacted to the horse. thank you.
