I was chosen to attend a workshop at the Natrona County Library in Casper today. This is the first non-school library I can remember. As a voracious childhood reader, I finally had to expand beyond the confines of the tiny school assortment, and hit The Big Time.

As a sixth grader walking into this building, I was in awe. First of all, I knew the statue of Prometheus had its controversy, letters to the editor were split about its beauty and/or appropriateness. At least, that's how I remember it. But walking into a building with a statue in front of it, surely, that must mean this was a grand and regal place!

I still like it.

My little Ten Sleep library would fit into one eentsy corner of this building. In fact, the children's section may be bigger than Ten Sleep.

My workshop was on books and methods to encourage reluctant readers (think "boys") and how non fiction can be used to do this. The presenter was Kathleen Baxter, www.kathleenbaxter.com, and she had us laughing and chattering like the students we'd like to encourage. We covered fiction as well.
