We took the time to stop and look into some history. While Vernon had known there was a tiny community in this area once, we didn’t know where certain foundations remained.
A relative shared with us where the school house foundation was and, unbelievably, we walked right to it! Great directions, L.! Thanks!
You can make it out… kind of! Vernon has just left the back wall, and I’m standing on the line of rocks used for foundation. It’s easy enough to walk past this area and never notice the faint foundation… but once you start looking, barbed wire, tin cans, nails, and even a broken spoon was in the area. Of course, we didn’t spend much time looking… and I could feel myself itching to come back with my metal detector so I *really* could find more barbed wire!
I may see if I can find a photo of this place in its heyday… but that might be a tough one!
