Baby Chick Update

Posted on May 12, 2014

Good ol’ winter isn’t done with Wyoming yet!  Interstate 80 was closed all day yesterday and today due to blizzard conditions.  Two feet of snow fell on Casper Mountain.  Here, thankfully, we received just a skiff. As usual, Vernon says it’s much dryer just a bit farther north… which is good, since wet conditions and…

Busy Season

Posted on April 24, 2014

If you couldn’t tell… we’ve been busy around here. We’ve been kicking cows out into our badlands pasture.  It is a LONG walk for little bitty baby calves, and for my horse and my dog and for ME!  (Don’t mind that my camera didn’t open all the way… I do believe the poor thing is…

Everyone Say, “Awwwwww”

Posted on March 31, 2014

Snow again.  4″ of white stuff with an inch of slush underneath… yes, we’re back to ooee-gooeey mud!  Not that we had dried up from the last storm.  I had to drive into Ten Sleep this morning… again, 4 miles down the road, there was just a skiff.  We’re just special, I guess! I had…

Say, What?

Posted on March 28, 2014

Dally ignores my chickens as they happily scratch through the brown grass to the green shoots below.  She is baking in the sun, panting at the highs in the ’50˚s!  Heated to the mellow, sleep stage, I imagine her simply whispering, “eh? Say, what? huh?”

The Opposite Side

Posted on January 3, 2014

Self Portrait in a Chicken’s Eye

Posted on December 26, 2013

I may have some rushed posts the next few days… I have company in my Indian room, and so my usual late night, hour long, detailed posts will have to be condensed! For tonight… a close-up of one of my chickens provided me with… ME! My silhouette appears in her eye… an unknowing self-portrait at…

The New Girl

Posted on November 25, 2013

Whoooooeee. So, feeling sorry for Victoria, I decided to clean my own refrigerator today…  Ha!  Not really.  I DID clean it, the purpose was to make way for More Food.  Then I cleaned and reorganized the pantry.  Hey, look.  I DON”T need to buy more olives for Thanksgiving! Then there was that short incident about…

Wrecks

Posted on May 11, 2013

1.  First Branding is done.  We JUST had enough people, short some of our regulars… but had enough food for more!  We had great leftovers for supper! 2.  While kicking the cows and calves over The Big Grey Ridge, they had a wreck, which means they’ll be riding again tomorrow, trying to straighten out cows…

Made Me Laugh

Posted on March 16, 2013

Look who gets to free range! Yup, I was going to do this anyway once the snow began to leave… Highly Supervised… but now, since Elsa-the-pheasant-killer is happily running through Dog Heaven, I’m doing this in Less Supervised Mode. Dally ignores them. Lucas-the-original-chicken-killer, watches, and is 90% unfazed by them.  They don’t seem to excite…
