Red Dirt In My Soul

Posted on July 30, 2009March 25, 2015

Finally, I managed to get my book illustrated and published with the local print shop. The “illustrations” are really my photos of the ranch, modified to look like watercolors with Photoshop. My original idea was to post each individual page, but I decided that I wanted to share my boys’ rendition they gave during our…

Centennial Traffic

Posted on July 28, 2009January 1, 2015

Ranch “outfits”… definition: motorized transportation/work vehicles Four wheelers… Motorcycles… Pickup trucks… “Town” cars… Sometimes we are accused of having too many around here… Each kid has their car… We have 3 pickups… A truck… 3 four wheelers… Two motorcycles… My Durango… Johnny’s car… But NEVER. NEVER. Has this ranch seen this many cars at once!…

Centennial Song

Posted on July 27, 2009March 25, 2015

One of THE best things from our Centennial Celebration was this song, written and sung by our friend Joe Bain from Crowheart, Wyoming. We’ve known Joe a loooong time, and were thrilled with this composition! One Hundred Years Ago ©2009, Joe Bain Greet Ranch Centennial Song from Carol Greet on Vimeo. By the Nowood River…

Centennial Celebration

Posted on July 26, 2009March 25, 2015

Over 100 relatives… Fed over 300 family and friends… Launched my book Red Dirt in My Soul… Talked and talked… Hugged and hugged again… Took very few pictures unfortunately… Relying on others for that… Legs are tired… Left my camera in a car over there… So no photos tonight… Need to put my feet up…

Posted on July 6, 2009December 29, 2014

The 4th in Ten Sleep means parade. The 4th in Ten Sleep means street dance. The 4th in Ten Sleep means RODEO! Now I’ve taken photos of the parade every year but this one because… We were Grand Marshals. A friend took this one… There’s me and my boys, and Victoria and Vernon… unseen is…

It Was There…

Posted on July 5, 2009January 10, 2015

Apologies for not posting yesterday. I wanted to share our 4th of July Celebration Small Town Style. I want the world to know… that here… It is everywhere. We followed it at the front of the parade.  It lined the streets. It’s on the back of a horse drawn wagon. It’s on the competitors in…

Book

Posted on June 26, 2009March 25, 2015

Long ago… when my kids were little and chubby and cute and just… just… just… you know… so full of potential and… LIFE!, I wrote a children’s book. About them… and this ranch… and the feeling that you get here… of continuing tradition… of history… of hard work… of generations… I called it Red Dirt…

Wyoma Story

Posted on June 25, 2009March 25, 2015

From Wyoma’s book… Wyoma’s Life Stories. “When a woman marries a farmer she automatically becomes an instant hired man and she had better know how to do anything and everything or be on the look out as how to do it.  I had never shocked grain but I soon learned.  When Jim had the horses…

Father’s Day – Good and Bad

Posted on June 21, 2009December 29, 2014

The day started with news that Vernon’s Uncle J. had passed away.  He was a nice man and will be missed. The weather today was gorgeous again. I felt better after a bad night with a splitting headache, barking dogs, and a bedroom too warm to sleep comfortably. We decided on a picnic to our…

A Story from Wyoma

Posted on June 20, 2009December 29, 2014

I introduced you to Wyoma yesterday. I thought I’d share her story of coming to Ten Sleep and meeting her husband first. She was a cracker! See if you can get a feel for her character in this story… all spellings and writing style are hers… “During the summer of 1928, our friends from Ten…

Wyoma

Posted on June 19, 2009December 29, 2014

My father-in-law’s great aunt used to live here. Her name was Wyoma. She was 4′ 7″ or somewhere in there. She was feisty. She was NOT politically correct. She was blunt. She had stories… oh, my! her stories… She wrote a book… I love it because it is “her”. I think it was written in…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
