First Flirtation

Posted on September 21, 2009January 5, 2015

Sunday the rain moved in…

We were up on our mountain pasture spreading salt…
<<details on that tomorrow>>
The wind whipped up…
The plink plink of drops was met equally with the whish whish of the wiper blades…
The sky was gun metal blue…
The hills layered in shades of greygreen…
We drove up the last hill and saw these lost sheep.
stor1
Really…
We don’t know who they belong to…
This photo is as close as Wyoming can envision the hills of Scotland…
Probably not that close…
But it made me want to speak with a Scottish accent!
We managed to drive down the mountain before we were mudded in somewhere near Inverness…
The rain continued off and on…
Casper was hit by a major storm including heavy hail…
The temperature dropped…
So, why this morning, when I went to help out a friend…
Did I not notice the mountains?
stor2
Sure, the clouds were perched on top…
but I took this photo first thing…
wearing multiple layers of clothing due to the chill wind…
Why did I not notice until much later…
this…
stor3
Under the clouds lay a white present…
stor4
And as I helped my friend shuttle pickups and horsetrailers up the mountain…
It became quite apparent…
Winter’s first flirtation with the Big Horns was last night.
stor5
Two nights before the official first day of autumn…
Winter teases and smiles and will soon give a quick look over her shoulder and disappear…
but probably not for long…
