Meet “Pate”

Posted on November 16, 2009March 25, 2015

Almost as soon as she was born…

Rimrock Sadie Lady told me her name…
sadie
There was never any doubt…
The other eight pups have given me fits…
I discarded the theme idea like I did with my previous two litters…
though it was fun finding Wyoming names (with special help from “This God-forsaken Land” poem) and Centennial names…
But if this is Elsa’s last litter…
I was gonna be free and just pick what they revealed their names to be…
Kinda New Age-ish for me, some people say…
I prefer to think of it as a tad bit of the Choctaw heritage coming through…
naming them after events or ideas…
choctaw
whatever…
This guy…
sturdy…
and forthright…
is gonna be a LOOKER!

Reminiscent of brother Raider…
raidera1
and brother “D” from the 2007 litter…

He has a peculiar trait I believed his two older brothers were going to have…
but they didn’t…

It’s easy to spot on his left side…
that glorious blue…
The same blue I love on my Dodge Durango!
Dodge calls it Patriot Blue.

<Note: This is NOT my Durango… mine has a constant coat of dirt on it… this shows the REAL color!>
I’m going to do the same…
If his eye changes…
so be it…
but right now I’d like you to meet…
Rimrock’s Patriot Blue, aka “Pate”.

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
