Treat

Posted on July 3, 2016July 2, 2016

While we provide salt and mineral to our cattle… they aren’t the only ones that benefit.

Often other animals will come to the salt lick and lick and chew at the dirt.  Salt seems to escape its containers… they will be shoved or kicked over, or rain will wash some through some cracks in their containers, or salt will merely fall from the wet noses of the animals while they relish the treat.  Solid blocks or loose, salt works its way into the soil beneath.

Here you can see how elk and deer have eaten at the dirt.  Salt is a pretty yummy treat.

Good thing they’ve never had any limes…
