One thing about ranches… there’s always room for improvements or repairs!
The guys just finished up this project and it looks great! Best of all, it works great, too. While the huge cedar tree posts were good for many years, they wear down and sag, and some of the gates had special combinations, like, lift up, grunt, then slide the handle… Sometimes not easily done, or fast, and since this is where we sort our cattle… it was time to upgrade!
While metal posts are not “pretty”, nor full of “character”… they work pretty slick… and that in itself, is its own kind of beauty!

Easier and more functional is always better in the long run, I believe.
Good look’n pens, in my travels I always look for old barns & other farm buildings & I especially like to see the old ranch pens all made from real wood & old posts! the stories they could tell-
On my friends farm they had a gate that you had to unhook the chain, lift grunt off the brick and then wheeee jump on and ride it to the open position and then jump off and put it on another brick. Ugh. Which means I get it.
