Moving on the Mountain

Posted on August 30, 2019August 30, 2019

The distinctive clang of the horse trailer gate signaled another day of cowboying in the Big Horns. Four horses were unloaded. However, one of them wasn’t Panama.

Instead I had volunteered for babysitting duty. As you know, it’s rough country from my other posts about this same gather. I have a knee that’s acting up, and though it doesn’t seem to bother it very much on most gathers, the steep hillsides, multiple springs and streams to cross, and the brush and rocks and trees all just told me it might be better to forgo this year.

I hate to start thinking that I may not be able to ride at some point… but on other days… in other pastures… as long as I can, I’m gonna drag myself into that saddle! Cowboying is my favorite part of living on a ranch!

Okay, watching grandkids is fun as well… it’s just a different kind of fun.

Thankfully, Tess and Megan take photos for me… it helps my heart to still be “involved” in some way.

CCOMPLETELY understand. Being a committed optimist is helpful. Had knee surg last month. Ten days later bounced down long flight of stairs, injured knee bent and tucked under my bouncing butt. This, too, shall…….

Oh yes, I’m with you there with the knees. Not cowboying for me in middle England, but realising that uneven paths, slopes (plenty of them living on the local hills) need to be assessed a little differently now!!!!! And sometimes avoided

as the years roll along, there are certain pleasures that just are better in memory than in action, but ya still gotta try, that helps!
