Petroglyph Proof

Posted on September 1, 2020September 1, 2020

After our trip back in to history to the Lewis homestead cabin, we went even farther back in history with a side trip to petroglyphs. Just like The Dugout, I have written about the petroglyphs before.

You might want to click through and read the link first.

I was wondering how they were holding up to weather and stupid people.

Note: I did darken all of these photos which seemed to help the design come through.

My favorite one was still there.

The cow is still there.

And this horse.

And this shield figure.

Brandon gave a half-hearted re-enactment of the “medicine man”.

It looks like the most recent damage still was from 1996, at least, the ones that dated their “work”. While I’m sure some of the engravings were pretty recent, people haven’t totally ruined the site.

We had a great day… everyone talking and learning and laughing and reminiscing.

I think my favorite photo of the day had to be this one… a selfie with Vernon’s aunt! Who says selfies are just for teenagers? Maybe that’s what the petroglyphs are saying… I was here. I existed. Here’s proof!

The petroglyphs are interesting. Any idea when they (the real ones) were created?
My mother used to say (about graffiti) “Fools names, like their faces, often seen in public places. Do you supposed the petroglyphs were graffiti of their day? Or were they some representation of plans or local people?

The darkening helped see them. Thanks Carol.

Petroglyphs and photographs are the same. Memories kept in different ways.
