Not Planned

Posted on July 27, 2025July 27, 2025

Today didn’t go as planned… I was working on a project outside when a thunderhead built up and started popping with lightning. Two hours later, Daniel calls, wanting me to verify the location of the wildfire.

Location can be very difficult to tell. Here, it looks like it was right above us… not miles away… but it was.

Everyone is concerned. The possibility of losing grazing, pipelines, fence lines, pumps, water tanks, not to mention cattle themselves, is VERY POSSIBLE.

The wind blew it up the mountain. Then the wind blew it down the mountain. The wind stopped. Now the wind is howling again.

When the smoke is grey, it’s burning grass or sagebrush. When the smoke turns black, it’s burning trees.

Another fire was burning towards town, and another that was reported on the top of the mountain turned out to be a false alarm.

The guys are up there but I have instructions to bring breakfast in the morning. I hope it’s quiet to night.

Fire is frightening, especially in open land. I hope the lightening stops and there is rain to help put it out.
