Work and Help

Posted on August 2, 2025August 2, 2025

I rarely fail to post everyday, even if it’s just a single photo, but last night I had a chance to spend the night on the mountain and I took it! Unless someone wants to gift me some Starlink service or I drive half a mile where I MAY get one bar of service, you’re just gonna hear crickets from me. I’m VERY ok with being out of touch for the most part though not posting or being ignorant of a big storm headed my way does give me a little bit of trepidation!

After various short delays, my buddy and I headed off to our adventure. She had to give a little pose with the party hat that Jaxon and I found laying in the road the other day during our adventure. It may just become my theme hat… she was much more willing to pose with it than Jaxon was.

After a short stint at local history…

Showing off the foundation of the Dry Farm School house… we spent a bit of time looking for arrowheads unsuccessfully, then on to my Special Place (no elk), and lunch. We had just started working on the foundation when Vernon arrived to eat lunch with us. We sat down with him, just to have him tell us the big elk herd was 1/4 mile away, having appeared after we’d traveled the road. Well, bummer for us!
Then Vernon co-opted my help away… getting her to put together his contribution to our Special Place.

Vernon left to go finish looking for sick calves… and my helper and I finally got to mixing masonry mix to seal up our stone foundation. Hey, grandkids are for teaching life skills, right? AKA, helping me work!
I had forgotten my little cushioned gardening bench and after crawling around through the rocks and bending over squirting cement into gaps in the rock… I needed a break… and to stand up! Oh, my… my muscles were sore already! We switched to a new chore, raking a path, moving rocks out of the way and leveling the ground. We had been hearing elk calls in the timber, and after stretching my back, one more time, I spotted them.

Lorelei was all about elk from then on. While I watched them with my binoculars, she had requested the use of my camera.

Good job! A rainstorm blew in, shutting down our operation. Well, it was 6 pm, so supper, card games, and quiet reading filled the evening.

We tried to go out to look for shooting stars, but the half moon was too bright!

I hope to kidnap more grandkids to go up and help me continue to work on the foundation but I will have to recover first! I’m sooo sore. I will not forget my cushioned knee bench next time! And maybe then I’ll take a photo of it so you can see what I’m working on!
