While the sky was actually blue in some parts today, smoke still drifted from the Red Canyon Fire. In early morning, fires look their best… they’ve “slept” overnight. Increasing humidity and cooler temperatures means a fire will “lay down” overnight. When we left to go up the mountain to work cows, it was looking better.

As we rode, worked, and spread salt, the fire grew.
It’s now listed at 68,449 acres. I feel for those in its path. We have neighbors and acquaintances and people we’ve never heard of who own land there, and stories of self-reliance and desperation are making the rounds. Cutting fences to let cattle drift out of harm’s way. Ranchers building fire lines around vital corrals and homesteads. I’m sure it’s rough over there.
The fire closer to us is still listed at 3500 acres, which is great as it didn’t spread very much today.

Brandon was out fighting the Spring Creek Fire close to us until 9:30 last night. Neighbors are all pitching in where they can. It’s nice to see the support.
