We preg tested our heifers today. It was cool with serious clouds and rain showers blowing around. I just knew as I drove up that we’d be standing around, hunched against the rain all day. Well, luckily (or not), that didn’t happen.

We kept our coats on… but managed to discard the hats and scarves as time went on.

Nothing seemed to dim the sunshine of our storytelling vet!
At one time, we looked up to see a huge cloud of smoke beneath the glowering clouds.

We finally decided it wasn’t smoke, but most likely a huge cloud of ash from the wildfire that scorched 124,000 acres. The winds had lifted it up, imitating smoke… but within minutes, it was gone. Just as the last heifer was run through the chute, the temperature dropped and the wind increased… here we go! It’s gonna rain now! Wrong again.

We scooted the girls back to their pasture and headed down the hill… without getting wet. Slightly disappointing…
