Good Day

Posted on October 14, 2025October 14, 2025

With friends visiting from the Midwest, it was on the schedule to go to my special place. The day was supposed to be nice, but clouds rolled in and turned the morning cold. It really didn’t look like a good day to travel up the mountain. Nevertheless, my side by side was full of friends. We’ve known each other since we were 19 or so, having adventures that no one who sees us as 60-70 year olds would ever imagine.

Within a couple of miles, we broke above the clouds and found ourselves in sunshine and warmth. Hardly anyone else seemed to be on the mountain even with hunting season starting in two days.

While at one point we might have ridden horses or hiked or tromped through streams fishing, we are content to sit on a porch in the sunshine, talking and laughing while enjoying a picnic.

Simple friendship was reinforced and laughter echoed through the pines, much matured from our younger selves. We are thankful for Girl Scout National Center West that brought us together, the memories we made there, and the connection we still have.

It was a good day!
