Peg Loom

Posted on January 31, 2026January 31, 2026

Congratulations, it’s a peg loom! This type of weaving predates the Vikings.

Pegs are set into the holes in a board.

Weft strings are laced into the pegs.

Then whatever you’re wanting your rug to be made from, for my first one, I’m using plastic grocery bags looped into a rope. It is wound alternately around the pegs.

That’s as far as I managed to get today. But I’m very excited to try this… I have rugs and maybe even saddle pads in my future! I’ll be letting you know.

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
