Weathering the Storm

Posted on November 18, 2018

Woooooh!  Snow!  And cold!

Hiked out to the chicken coop, swept them a trail so it’s not so deep for those little chicken legs … they still like to free range and scratch in the dirt under trailers and such… guess I shouldn’t have, since one turned up dead.  Its head was gone, so I’m thinking weasel.  Dog gone it!

Then I hiked back to my house and was locked out… the doorknobs were frozen in place on both my doors.  I stood there doing some heavy breathing to melt one loose… hoping I wouldn’t be graceful enough to somehow stick my lips to the metal and be REALLY stuck there… A swift punch, and it came loose… yay!

Then I spent I Don’t Know How Long looking for a misplaced dustpan… and I’m not gonna tell you where I found it!

Lots of little things going wrong… but, I’m always reminding myself how lucky I am… I have many blessings… I don’t have predators looking to kill me and eat my head… I DIDN’T stick my tongue to cold metal, I DID get in my warm house, and I found my stupid dustpan!

Plus!  And this is a big one…

I don’t have to stick my face in a snowbank to eat!

You are a font of wisdom. Sometimes it shows in ways you work, study, write and talk but sometimes the wisdom shows up in other pioneer-like ways. Such as, who knew a dead by being beheadeded chicken could be blamed on a weasel? Wouldn’t a raccoon also be suspect? Anything with an arm to yank the victim closer in? Can’t blame a snake in snow and winter weather but …. how did you know?

This post gave me a smile as I was having one of “those” days myself. Love the chicken in the snow and especially the calves!

I’m convinced that things like dustpans, brooms, and eyeglasses hide when they know we’re looking for them and then come out to say, “Oh. Were you looking for ME?” (Really, I’m not crazy.)

This was such a great post! We can all relate to coping with life’s little challenges. I love how you “go girl” and tackle things like the frozen door knob by yourself! And a lot of the comments from your readers gave me more chuckles – especially about “where are my reading glasses?” On my head!

I’ve been looking for the canvas cover for my AC unit for 2 years!! So thankful for your blog! Keep warm.

Made me smile. The calves are darling. Always amazed how animals can be so adaptive and survive the changing weather. “Frozen Out” wow!

This cow photo is the cutest! The one on the right seems to be smiling. Don’t feel bad about misplacing your dustpan. The other day I found not one but two pairs of reader glasses on my head…after hunting around the house desperately for a pair so that I could read a label. (eyeroll)

Glad you got back in the house and found the dustpan. I lost a pair of reading glasses (specs) following a visit by my then two year old granddaughter. I looked in her toy box. I asked Mom to look in toy box at home. No luck. Several weeks later they were found and I will tell you where I found them. In the bottom drawer of the freezer!!!’!!!! And I’m too old to blame PMT!!!

but you wouldn’t trade it for anything! it’s these things that give us the memories of a lifetime, but I hate it when I go out to the shop to get something & by the time I get there I forget what I was gonna get! love that brown hen, all we raised were white ones-
