The decision was fast… Vernon was going to check for sick calves on the mountain, did I want to go? Well, yes, but I wanted to stay and work on the foundation of my special place. Brandon volunteered Lorelei. And maybe Megan. Did I want help? Yea, most definitely! Within minutes they had agreed… and I packed a lunch. Soon we were zooming up the mountain in Vernon’s tracks.
Lorelei and Vernon had already worked on the porch swing project together. Now, they were able to hang it.

One project down… following lunch, my helpers and I started another.

Each rock around my foundation needs the gaps filled. Hopefully, that will discourage rockchucks, packrats, and/or mice from using it as their home. Either that, or they will have never had such a snug home…
We stirred the mortar mix, wetted the rock, and began. It doesn’t take long for my muscles to start protesting. The one that’s really good at this may just be the one that can bend the easiest!

After a while, I tag teamed my volunteers. Lorelei scooted on her belly, marking places we’d missed. It’s quite the process actually… and though we worked a few hours, the job is still far from complete. Hopefully, I can snag more grandkids as volunteers in the next few weeks before high mountain critters start looking for places to hibernate!

I can’t wait to see the finished “Special Place” It looks like a really neat project!
Critter-proofing the foundation looks like a daunting task. Your helpers
are terrific! Hope you can finish the project soon.
Looks like a wonderful place to escape!
