We went to Worland today to work. It seems strange to do, but for a few years, we’ve put our heifers in a feedlot over there to let them grow. They do a great job there, giving them a balanced diet, keeping a close eye on their health. But it was time to bangs vaccinate them, so over we went. Brucellosis is something you definitely don’t want to have in your herd since it causes miscarriages. Only a few elk have been tested with the disease in the Big Horns, but since they can transmit it to cattle, we vaccinate.

After receiving their shot, which must be given by a veterinarian, they get special tags for traceability.

The Good Doctor also must tattoo his special vet number in their ear for proof… hence the green ink stain… on gloves, pants, toothbrush (for rubbing the ink into the tattoo), and lips, because where else would you hold your toothbrush full of green ink?

We were done in good time, slowed down only by our rambling conversation and rehashing of the last Trivia Night at the Ten Sleep Brewery. The Good Doctor is also on a team and we quizzed each other on our answers. Kudos to Daniel who remembered Jack Ruby’s name in our sideline convo about assassins.
Job well done, crew! (Including Tess who didn’t make a photo, but was in the back hustling heifers up the alley.)
