Drought Evidence

Posted on June 6, 2026June 6, 2026

I’ve mentioned it before, but I have a feeling, I will be mentioning it more and more often. This drought is hurting this country. When your average rainfall is 14”, you don’t have a lot of leeway before things go off the rails. We’ve had more rain here than three miles down the road at Daniel’s. Where you notice it is the trees.

The shorter trees are boxelders, the tall are cottonwoods. Notice the lack of leaves.

Boxelders are in the maple family. Often they are plagued by webworms… which mix hundreds of worms and spider type webs… ish. Ick. Yuck. I haven’t hiked down to see if they have them this year or if they’ve just been stressed by them in the past.

This is so sad.

The pipe is for *another* water project. Healthi-er trees on the right… no leaves to the left.

This little cottonwood tree is about leafless except for at the bottom.

The cottonwoods at my house are behind or sick or whatever. The wildflowers have been poor. Grass is spotty. Creeks are low. It just looks bad. Pray for rain.

And I’ll tell you an icky worm story tomorrow.
