After moving cows, we always pair the cows out of the herd. Meaning we match momma and baby and they happily trail off together in their new pasture. Not every ranch does it this way. Some simply hold the herd until they think the majority have found each other. Some just come back and try to help them find each other throughout the following days.
As kids or dudes, you hold the herd, not letting out any cow without her baby. It can be boring work. Especially on a hot day. But as you get older… and you improve your horsemanship skills… you can pair out too… or chase the escapees back into the herd.
It looks confusing. But it’s fun to watch the kids start to work!
