Photo Improvements

Posted on August 4, 2009January 1, 2015
Marilyn was nice enough yesterday to leave a comment about my photos…
And that got me to thinking…
I couldn’t do this without taking multiple and I mean, MULTIPLE photos…
Especially what I call OOPE photos…
The ones I’m NOT supposed to be taking because I’m supposed to be WORKING, not playing photographer.
The ones I usually don’t even look at, just literally point from the hip and shoot on AUTO!
I take 14 pics for every one I use…
and I choose them because they tell a story better…
For instance…
edit1
If I wanted to tell a story about “cow attitudes” I could use this one of the heifer licking her back… it looks like she’s sticking her tongue out at me…
edit2
Here she is seconds later… reflecting a more peaceful bovine attitude… so it is up to me to chose and tell which story I want.
Then there’s ones like this…
edit3
A nice enough scene… but not spectacular…
edit4
Turn my camera sideways and the focus is on the little stream…
meandering peacefully under the rocks of the Big Horn Mountains…
I find it more interesting than the first one…
edit5
The delay on my little camera frustrates me…
Here Dally looks OK… but my boys are hidden in the trees…
Since I wanted to talk about riding the mountain pastures…
I wanted to focus on my boys not my dog…
So I use this.
edit6
For my favorite of the day…
I liked the look of Dally laying at my (and Daniel’s) feet.
edit7
But the better story lay here.
edit8
Ah…
Now we know why Dally is so tired… the horse and cattle in the distance tell us she is a working cowdog, not just some pup laying in the grass.
I can’t ever understand those people that take one photo of a subject and are satisfied…
I take a quadrillion zillion photos (especially OOPE ones where I don’t even know if I’ve captured just the sky or only the ground… not a problem for MOST folks who actually look through their viewfinder!) even with my big camera, I’m kneeling, laying down, tipping sideways, focusing differently, trying different settings, trying to not put everything in the center of the frame…
In this digital world where photos can be erased with the punch of a button, why not???
Be liberal with your editing and amongst all those quick captures will be one great wonderful and timely photograph.
Then nice people like Marilyn will comment on your pictures and you’ll feel a nice little glow inside…
Job well done!
