It was 1969…

Posted on September 17, 2009March 25, 2015

Richard Nixon becomes president.

Neil Armstrong becomes the first man to walk on the moon.
Woodstock is held.
The Love Bug, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang are popular movies.
Gasoline is $.35 a gallon.
The Greets buy the BIG RED TRUCK.
So…
yesterday’s entry was partially true…
the truck is a 1969 model…
but I took the picture just this week!
<<This photo has been digitally manipulated…>>
1969w
This one hasn’t…

I had to do it to help cover up the calf-o-matic…
I’m pretty sure they didn’t have those 40 years ago.
We break out the BIG RED TRUCK when we thrash our grain.
<<We used to haul our horses in the BIG RED TRUCK until we bought the horse trailer… those are some great stories I’ll have to save for another time!>>
We were on a mission the other morning…
We had finished thrashing (threshing??? same thing… that’s just how we say it!) our oats…
and since we have a neighbor that always comes to help us if we need extra hands, but rarely asks for help back…
We decided to make a delivery…
with…
you guessed it…
the BIG RED TRUCK.
The BIG RED BARN is not ours…
it is our neighbor’s…
and, frankly…
I *love* it…
I could take tons of photos of it…
oh…
wait…
I have!
And I will continue to do so…
it is irresistible!

First we (note my use of “we” … ha!) unload the little auger…

Vernon raises the bed and backs into position.

The grain needs to fall into the pan so it can be augered to the top of their little granary.
rt5
The auger’s end is lined up with the entry hole…
rt6
and the door is opened and adjusted to the proper size to allow the auger to boost the grain upwards…
There were five guys standing around watching the auger do its magic…
Alright, I give B. some credit…
he shoveled the grain down towards the door…
though I’m pretty sure he didn’t break a sweat doing it!
Me…
I’m wandering around…
taking photos of my favorite barn in the early morning light…
Then…
too quickly…
the job is finished…
rt7
We drive our BIG RED TRUCK away from the BIG RED BARN…
and return home…
Forty years later…
