Late Night Excitement

Posted on May 6, 2025May 6, 2025

I often am up watching tv, reading, or occasionally crafting until 10 pm or so, when I then panic and try to write something here. Since my house is only a bit off the highway, neighbors can easily see whether my lights are on. This certain neighbor had an urgent message for me at 10:00…

More Rain and Plans

Posted on May 6, 2025May 6, 2025

More rain was predicted for today, so while my house lies waiting for more of my cleaning supplies, I spent the morning mowing my yard. I can clean while it rains. My cousin is coming for a visit next week, and I’m positive, without a doubt, that the state of my housekeeping is low on…

Spring Beauty

Posted on May 4, 2025May 4, 2025

To be honest, I could buy one of these for Quinlan, Jaxon, and Lacee and they would have the same thrilled look on their faces as Lorelei. There aren’t probably many 11 year old girls who ask for a writing quill for their birthdays, but Lorelei is one. I bought her lined paper as well,…

Antics

Posted on May 3, 2025May 3, 2025

I alternated between garden work and house work. While it may have reached 70 degrees today, my out of shape body thought it was more like 90! As a result, I don’t have a clean house or fully planted garden, but I’m getting close on both. When Vernon requested I come pick him up around…

Kit Season

Posted on May 2, 2025May 2, 2025

’Tis the season. On my way home from Ten Sleep, I saw fox in four different places. The kits are tiny. At this spot, there were six little babies… It’s fairly difficult to get good photos, through the brush, in low light, with rambunctious subjects… I took a few little movies, I’ll see if I…

Throwback Thursday: Big Grin, v.2.0

Posted on May 1, 2025May 1, 2025

This was first published May 2, 2015. On my way over the mountain to Kaycee, I stopped and had the opportunity to photograph a neighbor’s branding.  It isn’t often that I get to crash a branding and not have a job!  There was plenty of help, including two familiar faces. Daniel and the black horse…

Gorgeous Day

Posted on April 29, 2025April 29, 2025

The last few little babies, minus the even younger ones, were trailed to the badlands today. We won’t brand them until they grow up a bit. After 1.44” of rain yesterday, today was one of those absolutely gorgeous days that makes for great photos.

Crew

Posted on April 28, 2025April 28, 2025

Giving the cows and calves time to find each other after branding… we did nothing with them for a day. The neighbors that had come to help us with our big branding, were now themselves branding their own herds, trying to beat the predicted rainy weather. That meant Daniel, Brandon, Megan, and Quinlan were gone…

Woohoo

Posted on April 27, 2025April 27, 2025

While Quinlan and Jaxon were stepping into new roles as ropers in the branding pen, the little girls were stepping it up as well. Lacee started giving the Nasalgen vaccine. No needles are involved just a squirt up the nose against respiratory diseases. Reagan was marking the nose showing that it had been done. They…

Great Job

Posted on April 26, 2025April 26, 2025

I haven’t even shared all of my big branding photos, and we had another small branding today. It was just all of us family (Victoria’s three boys included) plus one friend… and we got the job done! Victoria remembered (quite well actually) how to rope… Then, we also had two new ropers in the pen….

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
