Rarely, if ever, have I posted anything slightly political on this blog… but I just read Bush Babe of Granite Glen’s blog… a counterpart (ranchwife) over in Australia.  I check her blog as well as Just Another Day on the Prairie, an Alberta, Canada, ranchwife.  They both crack me up… repeatedly.  The links to their…

Ponies

Posted on April 27, 2009March 17, 2015

If you’re one of our horses… you need patience. You need to wait when we doctor, sort in the corral, eartag, eat lunch, and do a hundred other things. You get to take naps and swish flies (though the fly population hasn’t exploded yet!). You get to get used to your buddy and not get…

Bruner Draw

Posted on April 26, 2009December 19, 2014

This is Bruner Draw.  Named for the man who homesteaded with a small dugout located on the skyline to the right of the most left juniper tree… the fenceline here separates our private ground from BLM.  This is the “badlands”.  The green in the bottom of this draw also hides a boggy mucky mess that…

Dogs of the Day

Posted on April 25, 2009April 28, 2014

Today was the first day in a few, that I’ve been able to settle in, do some chores, play an extended amount of time with the puppies, and have a nice visit with my daughter and her boyfriend.     We’ve been moving cows, you see…    Elsa and Dally were Dogs of The Day…

Gotta Share Photos

Posted on April 24, 2009December 19, 2014

I have to share some puppy photos… It is something I HAVE to do… I HAVE to share the cuteness! Elsa supervises feeding time, just to make sure everyone uses their manners. The colors (colours??) of English Shepherds… at least in this litter! You ever felt like LAYING in your food – it tastes so…

Open

Posted on April 23, 2009December 19, 2014

As the sun sets, I often switch to sepia or black and white to use the contrast.  This little reservoir in the badlands gave me the perfect opportunity to play. This one turned out to be my favorite… and “Open” seemed like an appropriate title. The badlands aren’t that “bad”… as you can see in…

Spring Turnout

Posted on April 22, 2009March 17, 2015

Thought I’d share my first OOPE video… shot out of my pocket on Saturday. The annoying sound is the camera… but just listen to the bawling of the mommas and babies! Enjoy! Spring Turnout from Carol Greet on Vimeo.

Fix Fencin’

Posted on April 21, 2009December 18, 2014

Somehow, whenever I want to talk of fixing fence, it comes out wrong.  My mouth can’t ever seem to coordinate with my brain, and “fix fencin’ ” usually blurts out and makes me appear *really* stupid.  Most people around me accept my fault(s) and pretend they understand what I mean.  I’m grateful for that.  Occasionally…

Everyday OOPE

Posted on April 20, 2009December 18, 2014

OOPE photos from Saturday… when everyday should be like this! Johnny consults his book… making sure #452 had calved… and how old the calf was… whether we wanted to take her along or leave them behind for now. We kick the pairs across the highway… you can tell we get tons of traffic here as…

Posted on April 19, 2009December 18, 2014

Well, I have OOPE photos from yesterday.   I have fence fixin’ photos from today. I have wildlife photos from today. I have scenery photos from today. Rarely do I have so much to talk about and so little time and space… The morning began with Lucas and I helping Johnny kick heifer calves out…

If Everyday Was Like This…

Posted on April 18, 2009December 19, 2014

We sorted and sent another 34 pairs out into the allotment today. A day of sunshine and barely any wind. A day of yellow bells and blue skies. A day of not too cold, not too hot… a Goldilocks day. A day when the pairs stayed paired. A good day on a good horse.  What…
