Happy

Posted on February 25, 2025February 25, 2025

Our delivery of “cake” arrived this morning. We feed this to supplement the hay. It’s made from corn distillers grain. Vernon fills the feeder that he and the boys built… The cows are going to be happy to see this!

Along for the Drive

Posted on February 24, 2025February 24, 2025

Every time I drive my side by side, it makes me giggle. I mean, it’s mine, and it’s pretty, and IT’S MINE! Somewhere along the way, it became “My Bluebird of Happiness”. My “Mountain Bluebird”. Not a Western Bluebird. And to that end…. I couldn’t resist. Yeah. I bought a sticker! Pretty much a trending…

She Likes It

Posted on February 23, 2025February 23, 2025

The things we do for our dogs. I think I’ve mentioned how Indy has a problem with her back, so jumping in the side by side is more like a pull-scramble-grunt (if she could) kinda deal. To help her out, I rescued my old rug from the Durango (which is for sale, if you’re interested)….

Chicken Beads Update

Posted on February 22, 2025February 22, 2025

A few weeks ago, I saw online (somewhere, I can’t remember or I’d give credit) the idea that a bead curtain would keep wild birds out of your chicken coop. So I tried it. See my initial test run HERE. I thought I’d update you since I’ve made a few changes. First of all, it’s…

Bear Stories 5

Posted on February 22, 2025February 22, 2025

One of our local historical “legends” was a man named “Bear George” McClellan. He lived not far from my house which means in his written stories, I can recognize many of the places he talks about. I have copies of some of the articles he wrote for popular magazines of his day. Some stories seem…

Throwback Thursday: Not Tonight, v.2.0

Posted on February 20, 2025February 20, 2025

This was originally posted February 23, 2015. My father-in-law recorded -31˚ last night.  We skated by with only -17˚.  Shows what living closer to the creek will do for you in winter!  As a result, we kept a closer eye on the heifers… they can go at any time, although they should wait just a…

Hay, What?

Posted on February 18, 2025February 18, 2025

In fields across the northern states, this scene is repeated on varying scales, from a few head to many, many more.
