Posted on February 12, 2009December 9, 2014

OK… If you are just getting into pysanky… this is a quick and fun learning experience. I just do this design freehand, and vines and leaves seem to be an easy subject for me.  I often recommend that people draw what they doodle… are you a star person or triangles?  Do you outline letters or…

Pysanky Continued

Posted on February 9, 2009June 16, 2012

I’ve taken you through the basic steps of pysanky… from white egg to wax covered, multi-colored egg.  The last dye was black.  There is no need to cover the black since you are done!   Congratulations! Now comes the fun part! I’ve said that… now I’m going to retract it!  If you are going to…

Pysanky Continued

Posted on February 8, 2009February 26, 2015

Pysanky Continued We started with a plain ol’ egg, drew on it, covered what we wanted to remain white with wax. The next step… what do we want yellow? Same rule applies here… Everything we want yellow has to be covered now with wax.  Now you can see where all the white is going to…

Apologies, Thanks, and Creativity

Posted on February 7, 2009February 26, 2015

Apologies, Thanks, and Creativity First, let me extend my apologies for not posting last night.  I have sincerely tried to keep my postings consistent.  However, Brandon came home from Laramie last night and bounced his Dodge Dakota into the guardrail at the top of Ten Sleep Canyon.  He had just thought about how nice and dry…

Lucas’ Paw

Posted on February 5, 2009February 26, 2015

For those of you ready to follow pysanky instructions, never fear… I’ll continue your lessons, but figured I needed to mix it up a little.  Keep researching designs and transfer some outlines to your egg(s).  Did you place your order yet? Meanwhile… I need some opinions and help here. I think you’ve all heard the story of…

Eggs Pysanky 101

Posted on February 4, 2009February 26, 2015

Most women out here – meaning those on ranches that I have met – have something to occupy their “off” time.  Some are amazing cooks, making bagels and doughnuts – some are into horses, spending time on lead changes and drooling over Clinton Anderson! – some are very involved in church or scouts or 4H…

OOPE Feeding

Posted on February 3, 2009February 26, 2015

Last night Vernon asked me to help feed this morning.  We needed to get done in good time in order to go help our neighbors vaccinate their cows.  He rises early.  I followed.  At 5:30 this morning.  Made our coffee.  Zoned out on the couch.  Had breakfast.  At 7 (the usual time)  he said he’d…

Eggs

Posted on February 2, 2009February 26, 2015

I placed an order over the internet today… just a simple little reorder of supplies for my favorite craft. Throughout the years, I’ve had many interests… cross-stitch was a favorite.  Bead and leatherwork still call to my hands…  I’ve braided reins and leashes from parachute cord.  I drew pen and ink cards and sold them…

Wild Calf Movie

Posted on February 1, 2009February 26, 2015

A few weeks ago when we were vaccinating our heifers, we had this little devil to take care of.  This is the first “oops” calf (not to be confused with OOPE!) that I can remember having here this early.  Evidently his momma snuck out and had an exciting RRRENDEZVOUS (say it with a French accent!)….

Yearning for Green

Posted on January 31, 2009December 9, 2014

Today was one of those winter days when you yearn for green.  It was warm… relatively!  The sky was blue.  The snow was melting – albeit slowly.  It was the kind of day that makes you want to grab your seed catalog and make a plan for spring! I spent a few hours up at…
