We went to my husband’s uncle’s 94th birthday celebration today. It was held in Ten Sleep at the old Seventh Day Adventist Church…which actually was Ten Sleep’s first elementary school building. It was a good turnout for a family gathering. George still lives on his ranch, splits his own wood for his fire he builds in his woodstove everyday. He is in relatively good health…his vision has failed more than anything, but he’s good at recognizing voices and is always thrilled to visit with you. George is a gentle soul. This ranch is only 5 years older than he… Next year we will celebrate 100 years on this place. The building was filled with relatives that grew up here, relatives that visited in the summer, relatives that moved to town and brought their kids and grandkids here to help during busy days, relatives that moved far away and visit only once in a great while. This land holds their memories. We celebrated that today… and we, as keepers of the land, hold those memories with respect and love. Happy birthday, George!
