One of THE best things from our Centennial Celebration was this song, written and sung by our friend Joe Bain from Crowheart, Wyoming.
We’ve known Joe a loooong time, and were thrilled with this composition!
One Hundred Years Ago
©2009, Joe Bain
By the Nowood River
a hundred years ago,
Twin brothers had a dream
And their dream began to grow.
They struggled in the bad times
and prospered in the good.
And their ranch started growin’
by the banks of the Nowood.
CHORUS
It all started one hundred years ago,
Fightin’ drouth and blizzards
Cattle prices too damn low.
One hundred years o’ ranchin’
they’re still goin’ now,
They still make a livin’
Off them good ol’ cows.
Now Johnny runs the ranch,
With his family by his side,
And he kept that dream a’growin’
When his father crossed the great divide.
High up on the mountain
Or out in the badlands,
There’s still cattle wearin’
That A bar A brand.
CHORUS
No one knows the future,
Nor what it may bring
But there’s another generation
To do the brandin’ in the spring.
Four generations
Living in this land,
There’s still cattle wearin’
That A bar A brand.
CHORUS
A Hundred years of ranchin’
out here in this land,
There’s still cattle wearin’
That A bar A brand.

Thank you for posting this. I love the legacy left to us by Grandpa & Grandma Greet. It’s worth living up to wherever we are & celebrating as often as possible.
