Here we are again… weren’t we just here and I was celebrating ten years? My, that year sped by! Starting my eleventh year of blogging… I couldn’t ever have imagined that!
I need to celebrate that little achievement, so let’s have a giveaway.
A 2019 Red Dirt calendar is yours when I randomly choose one of you to win! Simply do this… in the comment section, post the title of a blog entry from my first NINE years. Do NOT include any from 2018. I’m making you work a bit. If you could read the post, too, that’d be awesome! Comments must be in this post, and the competition ends at midnight MST on Thursday, January 24.
Best of luck!

Chicken Hunting February 1 2017. Chickens and dogs and red dirt
Your blog brings me joy everyday.
“Ten Things You Don’t Know About: Pronghorn Antelope (November 2017) because I learned so much about my favorite North American mammal from your very informative post. You write so well about so many different topics: wildlife, ranching operations, an amazing variety of crafts, family life, dogs, and your travels. You’re a very observant, creative, and energetic person, with so many ideas and interests. I enjoy reading about the new projects you tackle, especially all of the detail that you give so that I can see what the steps are. Thank you so much for your 11 year commitment to this blog, as you’ve really created a remarkable record of your life here.
Congratulations on reaching your 11th year of blogging. Only found you in 2014, but have enjoyed all your posts and have gone back into years prior to 2014. Thank you.
Ponies from Feb. 2008. I’d suggest you line up all your ponies for a photo but that would probably be nuts.
Unromantic – Posted on January 22, 2009
I wish I remembered just when I started reading your blog. Came through the daily coyote, and you’re the one I’ve stuck with. I do so enjoy vicarious ranch life through your words and pictures. Thanks for sharing your world with us!!
Oops! didn’t see someone else had used that one… If doubles don’t count, then “Wood Shop – Posted on January 25, 2013.” Wow, how time flies!!
Wordless Wednesday – Under the Crabapple Tree
Posted on May 27, 2009 by Carol
I enjoy the your pictures and stories of everyday life.
A big congratulations!! We enjoy your blog so much.
That’s a gorgeous photo of the moon the other night!
I’ve been enjoying your blog since I learned about you from the Daily Coyote when Charlie was just a pup. I don’t remember what year that was but it’s been awhile and I still enjoy reading about your Wyoming ranch life and your family. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
It’ll Be Better How Elsa cut her paw…..I like your moon picture, too. Alice Emerson has a really good picture of it posted, too.
“Hey Babe!” – November 23, 2017 I love Wordless Wednesdays! The pictures bring up so many memories of being out there!
In addition to Wordless Wednesday, I also really enjoyed your stories about the dogs. especially when the puppies came along.
I am already enjoying my Red Dirt in My Soul calendar, and just wanted to say thank you for your devotion to the blog. Congratulations on 11 years. I have been reading since about 2005 when I got my first ES. Everything about the dogs, horses, ranch life, Wyoming, and your family adventures has become the digital diary for you, and a way for so many others to connect with ranch life. Keep it up!
“Fruit Blizzard” 2-23-12 The “I hate bananas!” post. 🙂 I learn a lot from reading your posts. This one taught me that watermelon can be dehydrated. Who knew? I mostly use my dehydrator for apples.. Looking forward to summer and watermelon season so that I can give this a whirl!
“Great Walk” 1/17/2015 Made me wish I was there on my snowshoes with my dog.
Unromantic. January 22, 2009. “Thawed 1/2″ of poop in a corral with an undercoating of dangerous ice.” I can relate to that, moving hay from the barn to the corral where the cows are, here in Ohio where we get more ice than snow in the winter. I had to laugh at “Boomer, who tries to sneak in a little good time with Elsa on the side”. Had that happen. The joys of breeding (or trying to breed) carefully selected pure-bred working dogs. My friends who live in the city, can’t understand why somebody of my advanced age still lives on a farm and works 7 days a week taking care of animals. Some of us need space around us.
Love your blog. Discovered it, when Longmire first became popular and you wrote about Longmire days in Buffalo and knowing Craig Johnson.
May 26,2011. “Dally’s Litter”
I have always enjoyed the dog stories. And the pictures with this post are great.
Great Idea Carol. Wonderful blog. I know it is chore sometimes, but we all Thank You for doing it and giving us some amazing insight to your life.
butchers’ foothills elsa.
have been reading for many years. i found you through the daily coyote and was hooked.
I have been following you since The Atlas Blizzard October 10, 2013 your post was about ten things to know about the blizzard.
I think I found you from a friend who told me about looking at The Daily Coyote Shreve’s blog.
And i was trying to find out what happened out there with all the cattle and ranchers. That was quite a devastating time for your area.
Thank you Carol for doing this so long! It really brings me much joy!
Well I can’t remember the exact name of the post but it was when you won the cowboy boots and were featured in the magazine. I was just so happy for you!!
Wyoming Writers (1/20/15)
I found you through Daily Coyote, and have read everything you’ve written through the way-back on the side bar. I also read Brandon’s Big Trails blog. Such a different way of life to my suburban existence! Oh, and thanks for telling me about Craig Johnson. I’ve passed him along to several people, and we’ve been to hear him speak at book signings.
