Ay Eye

Posted on May 31, 2019June 19, 2019

Not Artificial Intelligence.

Artificial Insemination.

We had 150 heifers to do today. Quite a bit for us. Plus the guys wanted to space them out some, which was ok, as we got to take a long lunch! Most of the time in the past, I’ve worked the alley or have done paperwork, but this time I loaded straws of semen into the guns.

My view was this today.

Cutters, tweezers, warm water for thawing the semen… and other supplies. I had trouble snapping the straw into the blue thingy inside the sleeve… which I’m sure makes sense to most of you readers, right? Anyway, I was left with just the job of pulling the semen filled straws out of the liquid nitrogen tank and dropping it in the warm water.

Here’s the bird’s eye view of the tank. Each cane holds ten straws, so there’s 20 something straws in there. I’ve already broken into the third cane and used some of them.

You have five seconds to pull the straw and drop it in the water to thaw. Don’t drop it back into the tank, or bend it or crack it, or get it in the sunlight or wind. After loading the gun, keep it warm in your hand or next to your body, which for us girls, means sticking it down your shirt into your bra.

AI humor is rampant and best not repeated. As Daniel said, “It starts in the gutter and goes down from there!”

Today both Tess and Megan got to try their hand at AI-ing. Daniel, Brandon and Victoria all handed out advice!

We finished right before the thunderstorm and just in time for Lacee’s fifth birthday party. It’s a couple of days early, but this was the best time for a party.

Lacee had a great theme of… unicorns… can you tell?
