Keepers

Posted on November 10, 2019November 10, 2019

Those young heifers that have made the cut to become the replacements for our older cows that we sold needed some work. They have had their eartag that matched their mommas’ since birth. Now they get their grownup numbers and tags.

This heifer is cooperative, showing off her little black tag. Black tags mean her mom was a heifer, so she’s her mom’s oldest child! We’re not very fond of black tags anymore, so often, the white numbers disappear over time… Not good!

Lorelei was on tag duty, pulling the new tags as I checked the paperwork.

They also get a matching tattoo in their ear, just in case they lose their eartag.

Bravo was on hand to watch all the activity, he was very calm, not barking, and watching the entire process. The weather was nice and we were very glad to work the keepers in pleasant conditions!
