Scenes from a Tractor – Video

Posted on March 3, 2020March 3, 2020

Yesterday you saw “Scenes from the Calving Shed”, now we’ve moved out to feed some heifers, baby calves, and our bulls. If you recall, the guys have built two big bale feeders over the past few years, Vernon uses one, Daniel the other. Now that we’ve moved heifers and their new calves to my place, we have to feed them “the old-fashioned way”.

Saying that cracks me up because I remember feeding with our old team of horses, Buck and Booger! And little bales. The times they are a’changing…

This video is a conglomeration of days… I’m driving, Megan’s driving… don’t get too concerned, I’m not telling a story, just sharing what it is like to drive, ride, pitch hay in the wind, and drop off Crystalyx tubs. You can’t get the total experience until you’ve got hay down your shirt, stabbed yourself with some mysterious sharp pokey piece of hay, dropped your pocketknife, sweated trying to break apart a frozen bale, pulled for all you’re worth on the strings to find out they’re frozen on, lost your balance like a drunken sailor because of all the frozen turds you’re bouncing over, and had to stop quickly because some cow/calf/bull won’t get out from in front of you…

But, you still might get the idea.

Carol, Thanks for the walk around your place with you (and the two dogs and cat!) I really loved it. You have a beautiful place — the fields, the stream and creek, and the beautiful red dirt and cliffs along the stream. If I were you I would also take as many walks as i could out there along those beautiful red cliffs (now covered by bright white snow) and the stream. I appreciate you showing us around your beautiful red dirt! I can see why you love it.

sure is nice green hay, looks fresh baled! & a 3 tine pitch fork, just like dad carried on the tractor when baling hay, & I have an old one hanging in my shop, tractors sure have changed, you need a good old 2 cylinder John Deere to feed the hay! no extras on those!

“Shirtsleeves and Snow” -+ “Tractor Tutorial” are good subtitles for this video. What a beautiful day, too. Even though you don’t have any sheep, have you ever noticed that sheep don’t walk backwards???? ….they don’t have a baa-ck up camera! hahaha have a great day!
