Before time gets away from me… I need to share what happened on the 3rd of July.
Ten Sleep had its 75th Rodeo on the 3rd and 4th. You know how I love taking rodeo pictures… usually. I wasn’t overly enthusiastic about it this year… and it was HOT. And I had spent the day helping a friend with her garage sale. Then I found out that Johnny was getting special recognition.
Way back when I first married Vernon, Johnny was a staple at the Ten Sleep Rodeo. Seems like he often carried the flag horseback at the beginning of the parade. He was one of the pickup men. Ten Sleep Rodeo ran their own bucking horse string. The bucking horses were run in various pastures, and Johnny would help gather them. I used to ride “Rusty”, who failed at being a bucking horse, but had his number branded on the top of his butt.
Anyway, we all showed up at the rodeo to support Johnny. The flag presentation was first, with the sheep riding following. In Ten Sleep, we load the little kids on the sheep in the bucking chutes and turn them loose all at once. Quinlan, Jaxon, and Lorelei decided to give it a shot. My video is REALLY bad. All three didn’t win, but they get a crisp dollar bill for effort.
Next came the recognition for the “old timers”. The were called into the arena and given the most gorgeous 75th anniversary belt buckles!
I was very happy to see these nice guys and gals recognized for all the time and work they contributed towards the Ten Sleep Rodeo.
Once everyone had cleared the arena, I grabbed the guys to show off their winnings. Lorelei was showing someone her scrape where her sheep stepped on her, so she didn’t make this photo.
I’m always a softie when it comes to Johnny and his great grandkids! I love this photo.
And what a sweet buckle!
Find me here!
That’s really nice.
Wonderful!
That was quite an honor for Johnny! sounds like a great time for all!
Thank you for sharing. Here near Chicago , everything was cancelled out so it was great to see that life did go on in the country. & that belt buckle is quite special for your father-in-law for all his years of hard work at the rodeo
