Ranch Scouts

Posted on August 1, 2020August 1, 2020

Earlier this summer, the little girls couldn’t go to Girl Scout camp because we were super busy. I figured I’d give them Girl Scout camp right here.

Raising the flag. It’s a tad difficult to have a real flag ceremony with two girls and a two year old…

Time to set up camp!

Girl muscles dragging the tent!

I wonder how many times in my life I’ve set up a tent…

If you’ve never set up a tent, it’s the poles that are confusing! I let them figure and recalculate and think.

Hammering stakes in the ground, we figured out where I’d watered last… there were a few stakes *I* had to hammer in the grass!

Success!

My favorite story on how the Brownies got their name. Technically, they are still Daisies, but… this is *my* Girl Scout camp… and I read this to them in the tent.

Making their gypsy dinners.

Fire building and cooking gypsy dinners.

Passing grade… “Do we have to eat the burned parts?” Uh, no.

A little sponge painting in the studio to wind up the day. No, we haven’t spent the night in the tent, but we will.

This brought back SO MANY great memories of our backyard tent, which was always very hot, but didn’t leak. I suppose back in the 50’s they put some product on the heavy, green canvas. We three had loads of fun….the “hobo” dinners were great, as well as hot dogs and beans eaten out of the can!!! I loved seeing how your girls figured out how to put up their Girl Scout tent….it will give them many hours of fun.

What wonderful memories to be making! Can I have The Ex send my two up from Louisiana to Wyoming for a week?

Probably will be their favorite camp experience of all. Especially the part where they figured out the poles.
