Lucky Girls

Posted on September 14, 2020September 14, 2020

We preg tested our heifers today.

We gathered, trailed, corralled, and tested them. You know… yada yada.

OK, maybe not yada yada, since I will write about it tomorrow. I have to share the exciting stuff first!

While we awaited the arrival of our vet, we ate lunch and the guys promptly crawled halfway under the horse trailer into the shade for their nap. Tess and I looked at each other… neither of us needed a nap… so I whispered we should go look for arrowheads!

I’ve walked this place before… found all kinds of flakes from flintknapping, and partial arrowheads have been found there years ago. So we wandered around…

Tess has never found an arrowhead, so the first rock she showed me was simply a triangle shaped one… nope. Soon, I pointed out the types of rocks, chert and quartzite, and the colors… and five minutes later… “I think I found one!”

Isn’t that sweet?

And it’s PINK!

Now we’re both excited!

I had my camera ready, determined to “channel” the metal detectorists I watch on YouTube.

More walking. More discovering flakes of all sizes…

Then!

I found one… and then… another! I videoed their discovery, but didn’t take a simple photo of them until I got home… how stupid was that???? Anyway, you bet that video will be in Re-Red in due time!

Three arrowheads in one day from a spot I’ve searched many times and rarely pull out anything!

We are lucky girls!

Those are exciting, really wonderful finds. The array of colors of the arrowheads are very appealing. I’m guessing that the quartzite arrowheads are from different deposits because of their different colors.

Really exciting. If we find one, we do not talk about it. As we would have to turn it in to the tribe. No keepers. They are beautiful.
