What, you may ask, is that?
There’s a locking carabiner on one end, a short length of knotted paracord with a leather tag (including initials), and then a midshipman’s knot on the other end. What do you use it for?
Well, since none of my grandkids read my blog, I can safely show you this stocking stuffer.
Often, when we go on hikes or fishing or just “out”… the kids like to haul along their water bottles or little tackle boxes or some toy. Then, like small children everywhere, they want you to hold it. Nope. Won’t do it. You brought it, you pack it. Sheesh, I’m mean. But I usually have *my* stuff in a little backpack… so I decided they could be more prepared.
I made these so they can be clipped to a belt loop or jacket with the carabiner and then the adjustable knot can slide around the object they want to carry. Around the neck of a water bottle. Around a kid’s sweatshirt. Through a small tacklebox’s handle.
Time will tell if these are a good idea, or just another thing to lose. I sure like the idea of them though!

Those look extremely useful. Love the idea!
Wonderful idea for your grandkids.
I have a carabiner on my keys, but not a locking one. I can clip the keys to a belt loop or just identify the key I want quickly by its proximity to the carabiner. Sounds strange, but it works. I think it’s a great gift.
It’s a smart idea to give them responsibility for their own things early in life, and a wonderful stocking stuffer to help them do just that!
Excellent idea! I’m sure they will love them. Nice job, too.
What a clever idea. I know of some adults who could use it.
Looks like a great idea!
