Lion Tale

Posted on December 18, 2020December 18, 2020

Brandon came to tell me there were mountain lion tracks by our centennial sign. Would I be interested in taking photos???? You bet!

Turns out, the mountain lion had killed a deer and drug it over a couple of hills, across our cattle guard and the highway, and stashed it in some trees. As I was filming, the snowplow operator drove by, turned around and came back. He’d noticed the drag marks too, and wondered if it was a big lion. He followed the tracks right off the highway. I hung back just a little….

Nothing like Wyoming Wildlife to liven up the morning!

I’m a little surprised that there was no blood. Maybe that only happens in the movies. I’m glad you didn’t go into the trees to check! Beautiful countryside but made me cold to look at it. Brrr!

Interesting video and lovely views of your red dirt country. No lions here in Middle England either, though over the hills there are /or were deer at the Eastnor Castle Estate.

Interesting that the lion made the kill off the road, out of sight, but dragged it back to the road area to eat.

How cool .. But no I would look at the trees several yards away. He was probably watching from afar. Smart little miss, crossing the cattle guard.

I got to thinking this morning, are the lions a threat to your calf crop, a new born calf would be a good target for a meal-

Love this wildlife story. I live not too far from Downtown Los Angeles and we have mountain lions also as well as deer to keep them fed. They appear quite frequently in people’s security cameras. No snow to track them, but they have collared 18 of them in the general area right now. It’s a real struggle for the lions as the freeways, etc. make it hard for them to diversify their territories and several are killed each year. At any rate, thanks for the story and video!

Wow. That lion really had to work to secure his/her kill. Interesting.

That’s one tough lion! I’ve had lot’s of deer in my yard over the years, but not a lion in sight here in central Iowa!
