Delivery

Today we took delivery of two sheds. We’ve wanted to expand our calving shed and finally figured out that two custom sheds and some continuous fence, ought to give us some more room.

Yes, we could have built them ourselves, but the time saved of buying them, seemed to be the best option. All we had to do was unload them off the truck and drag them over to the calving shed.
With the tractor on one side and the skid steer on the other, the boys lifted one shed at a time, and let the truck driver drive out from underneath.

It was a little nerve wracking for me, but the guys seemed fairly relaxed about the process! After unloading, I took a short break since the guys had to get their feeding done. It began to snow. And snow.

Finally, Daniel hitches to the front of a shed and I walk alongside, ready to give a shout if we get too close to a fence or if the shed looks like it’s twisting too much.

I didn’t take the time for a good photo as I was now walking in 3” of fresh snow, watching our new sheds, watching for fallen logs and gate posts and rocks that tumbled as we drug over them! Whew! We made it with the bigger one and just had the smaller one to contend with.

Discussion on placement, tractor angles, chains, direction of pull, rearranging the skid steer, and review of our plans ensued. Soon the smaller one was close to being in place, and we stopped for now.

The snow was *wet* and, yes, it’s piled up on the brim of my cap!

As I headed home to lunch, I got a good shot of how the new arrangement looks. Obviously, the sheds aren’t in their final places, posts need set, measurements taken, some minor additions will be made to the sheds… but what a start on our calving shed expansion!
