Johnny shared a couple more vintage photos with me. This one of Louise Greet and her brother caught my eye. The horse… maybe not the most gorgeous specimen. Round metal stirrups. That hat! Woolly chaps. Double saddlebags? Gun scabbard on the left side of the horse. The rope he’s holding looks very soft. But then, of course… the dog. Not black and white like a border collie. Perhaps… a sable? Could this be an old farm collie, what we now call English Shepherds? And what could be better than a puppy in arms?
Thanks for sharing Carol!
This is a wonderful photo I love it! The old west what a hard but amazing life.
And her smile with the puppy in hand and he is striking the pose!
First glance at the dog, my thought was, WOW- English Shepherds even way back then. Second thought – That really couldn’t be, could it? So I got my nose right up to that corner of the screen and decided, Yep, it really is. Kind of a setter-y head, but as they say, it takes all kinds (or maybe it’s just the angle). Did not even notice the pup-in-arms until I got back to your text. That is definitely an ES face from my perspective. What a great addition to your family album!
Looks like an Aussie to me
How lovely and somewhat rare to see someone smiling in a photograph taken that far back in history! I’m sure we can thank the little puppy for that. 🙂
Love these old photos. What amazes me is the clothes those pioneer women wore back in the day before permanent press and clothing was washed either by hand or in old wringer contraptions. And then, thinking about that outfit in the middle of summer: Ugh. But we have to admit, they did look lovely.
Hi….How is Louise Greet related to the family?
Louise was married to Ernest who was one of the older brothers of Fred and Frank, the twins. Frank was Johnny’s dad.
