Watch Them

Posted on February 12, 2021February 12, 2021

Snowing lightly.

Temperatures below zero.

Slight breeze.

Humid.

Foggy conditions.

Even though we weren’t going to bring the heifers up to the calving shed until next week, the guys brought them up anyway. Storm fronts and lower barometric pressure often brings on labor. Vernon did his first 2 a.m. check last night. It was -13°. Another mountain lion was sighted by our mailbox.

We are reassured when these girls are closer to home where we can keep a better eye on them. Just hold on, girls, it’s supposed to warm up!

How spoiled I am in Southern California. I’ve never thought of below zero, humidity, and fog going together. Mountain lion stay away from the babies.

We have more snow then you. Temps about the same. Ranchers here are calving too. Not a fun time for sure. Weather reports are that we will continue to get snow and low temps for 9 more days. It is a very light snow, but still piling up. Guess we had it too easy. Stay safe and warm.
